Pi Beta Phi

Life in the Pi Beta Phi Mansion

Once again the Fall season brings the ladies of 1518 the joy of another year in our gorgeous chapter house. Across the street from campus, and two short blocks from downtown 13th Street, this house has seen almost 100 years of pi phi angels. Built for the Pi Phi’s of 1915, the house gets a mini face-lift each summer supervised by a group of extraordinary alumni. We all look forward to the most recent additions to our home and the chance to show it all off to the newest potential members during Fall Formal Recruitment! In addition to housing 53 of our members, our historic house on Kincaid street is home to our beloved house mother Charlotte. More than any of the remodeling surprises, we cannot wait to see her smiling face as we begin another year of success and sisterhood!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish…Silver Blue Fish?

Each year, the highlight of a pi phi’s philanthropic calendar is the annual Pi Social event. Hosted in at our chapter house, the entire community is invited to an all-you-can eat pie buffet, the pie a pi-phi booth, a few friendly competitions, and a performance by our university a capella group, On the Rocks. We begin preparation at least a year in advance and the event always ends with smiles, whipped cream pies, and the satisfaction of another event well done! All of our proceeds benefit our national philanthropic cause, Literacy. Specifically, we support the First Book Foundation whose goal is to provide children with their first book who otherwise could not afford to purchase a book at all. Nothing builds sisterhood quiet like building a brighter future for children! Won’t you join us next year?

Go Ducks! Go Pi Phi!

Football season at the Pi Beta Phi Mansion calls to mind the smell of fall leaves, front porch group pictures in our duck gear, and walks to Autzen stadium with pi phi sisters. Last year, our sisters from all over the PAC-12 came to visit us when their teams came over to play the Ducks. Even though our game day attire reflected opposite teams, the bond of sisterhood lasts long after the fourth quarter! We look forward to the upcoming Duck football season, cheering for our UO Dance Team sisters during half time, and claiming those tailgating spots for pre-game barbeques. See you at Autzen stadium!

Gamma Phi Beta

Nu Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta is so excited to meet everyone during fall formal recruitment this year! As the first sorority founded on the University of Oregon campus in 1908, Gamma Phi Beta promotes the highest type of womanhood as each individual sister lives by our four core values: love, labor, learning and loyalty.

Gamma Phi Beta is proud to support two organizations that build stronger girls to become strong women. The first, Campfire USA, has been a partner with our sorority since 1959. Gamma Phi Beta, as an international organization, has raised over 2.45 million dollars towards camp-related causes. This year, we are happy to bring Girls on the Run on board as a philanthropic partner.

A few of our sisters serving pancakes and all the toppings you can imagine at our annual Crescent Classic, and event to raise money for organizations that build strong girls.

This past year, Nu Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta raised more than $4,600 for Campfire USA during our annual Crescent Classic, a pancake-feed that brought over 600 people to our beautiful home. The women in our chapter all worked together to make this event a huge success!

Many of our members participate in extracurricular activities outside of Fraternity and Sorority Life. In fact, we encourage it! At the same time, we take pride in the strength of our sisterhood, and each year we go on a retreat to get away from the campus life and focus on strengthening it even more. We also love social functions and strengthening our relationship with other chapters on campus as well.
We are so excited for all of the women making the journey through fall formal recruitment. It is an experience you will never forget!

Delta Gamma

At Delta Gamma we pride ourselves on always remembering that being a part of a sorority means you stand for something bigger than yourself: you stand for your letters, your national organization, and you stand for the girls who you come to love as sisters. We truly value our friendships and together we strive to live each day by our national motto: “Do Good.”

One of our yearly commitments to doing good is putting on “Anchor Splash,” the largest Greek philanthropy fund-raising event on the University of Oregon campus. We put together a week full of events meant to inspire all 25 chapters in the Greek life community to come together and raise money for our three 2012 causes: Service for Sight (Delta Gamma’s national philanthropy to aid the visually impaired), Team Cure ALS (a local organization that supports patients of Lou Gehrig’s Disease/ALS), and Fight Against Sarcoma (a special fund set up to support one of our sisters through her struggle with cancer.)

In less than a month of fundraising we raised over $34,000 – more than we’ve ever raised before! We hosted a series of events over the week to make the process fun and exciting, including “Donation Days” at Dickie Jo’s burgers, a Twitter scavenger hunt, an all-Greek house-decorating contest, “Dunk a DG,” and a Meet and Greet with a gentleman currently living with ALS.

 The week culminated with the Anchor Splash Big Show where each house had a chance to wow us with their final performance. At the end we presented awards for the fraternity and sorority who raised the most money during Anchor Splash, the houses with the best final performances, and the coveted titles of Anchorman and Anchorwoman of Delta Gamma.

Chi Omega Seniors Before Bid Day 2011

We here at Chi Omega, we cannot wait to meet you all in September during fall formal recruitment! We look forward to sharing many of the amazing aspects of our wonderful sisterhood with each and every one of you. Alpha Phi

The Tau chapter of Alpha Phi has been at the University of Oregon for almost 100 years, and in those years it's members have built upon the tradition and sisterhood that the sorority was founded on.

Alpha Phis are very involved at the University of Oregon. We attend every philanthropy event in Greek Life, and many of our members are involved on campus outside of Greek Life as well.


Alpha Phi proudly hosts two philanthropy events every year. Our Red Dress Gala is hosted each February in Portland, raising money for our national philanthropy, The Alpha Phi Foundation, supporting women's heart health. In the spring, we also host the "Alpha Male" competition, a talent show among fraternity members raising money for The Alpha Phi Foundation as well as a different local philanthropy each year.

We like to say we "work hard to play hard." Alpha Phis are very social and we are always looking forward to our next sisterhood event or social function with our friends. Some of our favorite activities are senior pinning ceremonies, and weekend trips to the Oregon coast, Seattle, the Bay Area, and beyond with our sisters. No matter what, as Alpha Phis, we are always having fun together while still working hard to be the best we can be.

Alpha Chi Omega

Congratulations on your decision to go through fall formal recruitment! Being a part of the Fraternity and Sorority Life community on campus is a great way to get involved, meet new people, and express your individuality while still being a part of something bigger. At Alpha Chi Omega we take pride in our sisterhood by following our open motto "Together let us seek the heights". We do this by encouraging each other to do our best in academics, pushing each other to try new things, and supporting one another through thick and thin.

One thing we are most proud of is the work we do to prevent domestic violence. Every year we organize a softball tournament, called Diamond Days, that every Fraternity and Sorority chapter on campus participates in. This softball tournament directly benefits a local organization, Women's Space, whose main purpose is to support victims of domestic violence.

Rho Gamma Spotlight: Caitlin

First, you might be asking- What is a Rho Gamma?

A Rho Gamma is a recruitment councilor. The recruitment staff (the students running recruitment) hired 72 of them this year. They are all disaffiliated from their chapters meaning they can't tell you what chapter they are in. They are your guides to recruitment, they will show you from chapter to chapter the first three days, and will be there for moral support through bid day and beyond! They are your resource for all things Fraternity and Sorority Life and the UO in general.

Caitlin Davidson

My name is Caitlin, and I am a junior at the UO. I am from the Los Angeles area, and am excited for my third year for two reasons. First, I will be studying abroad in Paris, France. Second, I was selected to be a Rho Gamma for 2012 Formal Recruitment. As a freshman, I wasn’t too hot on the whole sorority idea, but ended up going through recruitment just for fun. Recruitment itself was a lot to handle, and that’s why I chose to be a Rho Gamma. In high school, I was a peer counselor and enjoyed being able to connect with other students. So when I went through recruitment and saw how helpful the Rho Gammas were, I knew that was the job for me. Freshman year had its ups and downs, but looking back, I could not be more proud to be a member of Fraternity and Sorority Life. One of my favorite college memories will always be my initiation into my chapter. I wasn’t used to so much rain, so my first Oregon winter was rough. I needed a pick-me-up, which ended up coming in the form of my mom. I’m a legacy, meaning my mom and I are both members of the same chapter, so my mom was able to be a part of my initiation ceremony. I had no idea she was in Eugene until my ceremony, and I was so surprised that I started to cry. Embarrassing I know, but it was exactly what I needed at the time. Overall, my best advice for the recruitment process is to stick with it because you never know what can happen!

Formal Recruitment Philanthropy!

We are very excited to announce our support for a local philanthropic organization we will be helping during Fall Formal Recruitment this year!

The Fraternity and Sorority community here at the University of Oregon values philanthropic service, so it only seems fitting that we would start our new members off on the philanthropic path during recruitment!

Jilly-Bug's Toys for Hugs

Toy Drive for Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Doernbecher Children's Hospital is located in Portland, Oregon (about two hours from Eugene). It provides the broadest range of pediatric care in all of Oregon, thus many children who become sick in Eugene must go there to receive medical treatment.

Jilly-Bug's Toys for Hugs was started only last year by a local family who's daughter has a rare liver disease. Jillian has been receiving care at Doernbecher's since she was an infant, including during almost all of the summer of 2011. Her parents noticed last summer how much of an impact receiving new toys in the hospital had on Jillian's spirit and after returning home last fall they decided to give back. Thus the creation of Jilly-Bug's Toys for Hugs!

This wonderful family donated over 1,000 toys last winter and they want to keep growing, that's why they asked us for help!

What can you do to participate? 

We strongly encourage you to bring a NEW toy for a child ranging from infancy through high school to the Mandatory Recruitment Orientation Meeting!

What Meeting are you talking about?

If you are going through fall formal recruitment, you are required to attend a recruitment orientation meeting on Sunday, September 23rd at 7pm. That is the evening before classes start. The meeting will be held at the Morse Event Center located on Northwest Christian University's campus (on the corner of 11th st and Alder).

What kind of toys should I bring?
The photo below is the "wish list" provided by the hospital. I was informed that they have the hardest time receiving donations for older "kids" like high schoolers (hint hint)!
